FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

AUSTIN— The State Executive Committee of the University Interscholastic League met Thursday to hand down decisions on eligibility of student-athletes and issue penalties to coaches for UIL rule violations.

A student-athlete from Aledo was granted an appeal for varsity eligibility, overturning the previous ruling of the district executive committee.

Student-athletes from Lovelady, Richardson Berkner, Channelview, Texarkana Pleasant Grove, and Midlothian were denied appeals for varsity eligibility, upholding the ruling of the district executive committees. After hearing testimony from all parties it was determined that the student-athletes did change schools for athletic purposes.

Rockwall Heath coach Luis Najarro was issued a three-game suspension to be enforced at the beginning of the soccer season, a two-year probation and a public reprimand for violations of off-season school team practice regulations and for hosting soccer practice on ineligible dates.

Sherman High School coach Gary Kinne was issued a one-game suspension to be enforced immediately for violations of rules regarding non-school participation. In addition, Kinne was issued a two-year probation and a public reprimand.
