Academic Invitational Meets and Tournaments
Rather than going to the district meet without any formal experience in a contest, most high school students attend invitational or practice meets in their local area. While the UIL does not govern such meets, most host schools abide by UIL rules.
For schools that host an Invitational Meet, UIL prepares two sets of high school tests (Set A and Set B) that may be purchased for use during dates listed on the UIL calendar. Schools planning to host meets on dates other than these will need to order tests from other sources. Invitational materials are not for individual use or to be used solely as study materials. They will only be sold to schools hosting invitational meets.
- Hosting HS Invitational Meet During a Pandemic Information
- Submit your high school invitational meet information
- Submit your A+ (grades 2-8) invitational meet information
- Purchase Invitational Meet Material (Set A and Set B)
If you need to make a correction on a previously submitted invitational meet, email changes to UIL Academics at .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).

The tournament will be virtual, through Tabroom and NSDA Classrooms. We will be offering Novice and Varsity sections of LD, CX, as well as PF, as well as most UIL and NSDA individual events. All individual events, with the exception of extemporaneous speaking, will be asynchronous. Videos of performances will be due Wednesday September 23. All other events will happen live.
(My Tabroom tournament site is a bit of a work in progress as of August 24. Please bear with me as I get some eyes to proof my work. I should be completely happy with it by Monday, August 31.)

Salado High School will be hosting several virtual UIL Speech & Debate Meets this fall. We will offer all traditional UIL speaking events (CX Debate, LD Debate, Congress, Persuasive, Informative, Prose, and Poetry). These are not TFA qualifying tournaments; they are intended for smaller schools or teams that prefer "UIL style" forensics. On October 3rd, we will host a "Tournament that Teaches" for novice and varsity competitors. Novice students will participate in educational sessions conducted by some of the best instructors in the state. In the afternoon they will have "educational" rounds. Novice students will be provided with cases, briefs, and other materials. Varsity students will compete in a traditional tournament. Additionally, we will offer Zoom tutorials on how to enter tournaments on Tabroom.com Registration will be on Tabroom, and the platform we will use is NSDA Campus. Tab room director will be Julian Erdmann. If you have questions, please contact Julian Erdmann at julian.t.erdmann@gmail.com or Tim Cook at tim.cook@saladoisd.org. | Speech/Debate Only |

For a decade the "Speak the Speech I Pray You," -Classic, has been one of the largest speech tournaments in West Texas. In an effort to maintain this in-person opportunity for schools to prepare their speech students for UIL district competition, this tournament will provide the 7 UIL speech/debate events. Congress, CX Debate, L-D Debate, Informative, Persuasive, Poetry, and Prose will be the hosted events. L-D will use the Spring UIL topic.
Check the listed website often as we will be expanding information and instructions on this site.
(We are investigating hosting other speech events beyond these 7 events in a virtual setting. Check our website often.)
Thank you for the opportunity to host your fabulous speech students.

Center High School invites you to attend our Socially Distanced Roughrider Invitational Tournament. We will be offering all UIL Academic events including CX and LD debate.
To help with social distancing, the non-speech academic portion of the competition will be virtual – meaning we will send out the ACADEMIC material Sunday, January 31 to academic coordinators, and your students will test on your own campus. You will grade and submit your scores, and we will supply the medals. To see deadlines and how this will work, see the virtual page above. (There will be no essays graded for social studies, current issues and events, or literary criticism).
Ready Writing, Journalism, and Computer Applications tests/prompts will be provided virtually; however, if you would like your students ranked and to receive awards, the papers must be brought on campus with a grader on Saturday, February 6. These contests also have a limit of 5 each. For more information, see the virtual page above.
All UIL Speech and Debate events will be face-to-face. We will offer C-X & LD debate running at the same time. All events will follow UIL rules and guidelines including risk mitigation guidelines. To see specific measures we will be implementing and expected of visitors for face-to-face events, see the social distance page.
Entries will be accepted through AcademicMeets.com. The deadline for entries will be Friday, January 29, or until all our spaces are filled. Please note that for in person events to follow socially distancing guidelines, all entries will be limited.
Concessions and hospitality will not be provided. There are several fast food restaurants near campus or schools may elect to bring in their own lunches and snacks from home.
We look forward to a wonderful day of UIL Academics!
