The UIL sponsors five journalism contests - news writing, feature writing, editorial writing, headline writing and copy editing. Students compete at the district level, and then the top three places advance to regionals. From regionals, the top three places advance to state competition.
The UIL offers additional journalism contests through its scholastic press organization, the Interscholastic League Press Conference. ILPC offers its members yearbook, newspaper, online news and broadcast competitions. ILPC also sponsors an annual three-day spring convention and a three-day intensive summer workshop. Both are held at the University of Texas at Austin.
Students who excel in scholastic journalism, whether it be through UIL contests or through student publications, learn communication, media literacy and leadership skills that will make them successful in whichever path they may choose.

UIL names 232 students to 2024 All-State Journalism Staff
Students who earn more than 50 points through competition at the local, regional, state and national levels earn acceptance to the All-State Journalism Staff. For 2024, UIL will recognize 232 students for overall excellence in scholastic journalism from UIL competition to yearbook, newspaper, online news and broadcast journalism competitions. Congratulations to all these outstanding students and their advisers.

ILPC, TAJE join forces for summer workshop
More than 175 students and advisers joined us at Texas State University for the first ever ILPC/TAJE Summer Workshop in June. See the work from the photojournalism class here:
175 students named to All-State Journalism Staff
Students earn acceptance to the All-State Journalism Staff by participating and winning competitions through UIL journalism and ILPC or similar contests. Students who earn 50 points or more earn the distinction of All-State Journalism Staff.
