FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

AUSTIN, TX- The 2006 UIL Conference 5A Division I and Division II state football championships will be held at the Alamodome in San Antonio, the UIL announced Wednesday.

After holding a formal bid process, the UIL considered all proposals submitted and selected the Alamodome to host the two championship games on December 23, 2006.

“We're excited about the Alamodome hosting what we think will be the premiere high school football games in the state,” said UIL Assistant Director and Director of Athletic Dr. Charles Breithaupt. “We look forward to working closely with the Alamodome in creating a first-class championship experience for the schools, fans and students involved in the games. With the past experience the Alamodome has in hosting these types of events, and the enthusiasm the city of San Antonio has always showed to our events, we are confident that the Alamodome is the right venue to host what we hope will be a very successful UIL state championship event.”

“We were very pleased to learn we had been chosen as the site [for the games],” said Alamodome Director Mike Abington. “Our staff worked very hard in putting together an attractive proposal to the UIL and it worked. It's a great opportunity for us to continue our relationship with the UIL and we will definitely enjoy having the championship games in our venue for the next couple of years.”

The Conference 5A Division II championship game will be held at 2 p.m., followed by the Division I championship game at 7 p.m. on December 23.

General public tickets will go on sale September 1, 2006 through Ticketmaster and will be $15 for reserved seats.

December 23, 2006 marks the first time both Conference 5A championship football games will be played on the same date. In an effort to televise and promote both games, the UIL Legislative Council approved a measure this past June to hold both games at a designated site for the 2006 and 2007 football seasons.
