ATAVUS Online Procedures/Directions for Tackling Training

The "Best Practices in Tackling" certification must be completed once every two years and prior to any contact with student-athletes.  Coaches who were new to the profession in the 2020-21 school year are not required to have additional training for the 2021-22 school year as the certification lasts for two years.  The only coaches that will need to be certified prior to the 2021-2022 school year are those coaches that will be new to the state of Texas or those coaches who are up for renewal coming into the 2020-2021 school year. **All coaches are required to be registered in the UIL Portal.  Football Coaches must register for football in the UIL Portal and will be assigned an Atavus ID number.

There are multiple options for the “Best Practices in Tackling” (Atavus) Certification.  See below for options:

NOTE:  Two Certifications are now available:

  • 1.0 – Certification for all new coaches to the state of Texas.  (certification is good for 2 years)
  • 2.0 – Certification for coaches who have been certified in 1.0 and up for renewal.
