Beginning in the 2019-2020 school year there all football coaches (junior high & high school) are required to complete the “Best Practices in Tackling” certification.  The "Best Practices in Tackling" certification must be completed once every two years and prior to any contact with student-athletes after August of 2019.  Note:  A coach who is hired after August 1st, 2019 will have 30 days to complete the tackling certification in order to be eligible to coach during the 2019-2020 school year.

Coaches can complete their tackling certification in one of two ways as described below.

  • In-Person Training
    • THSCA Convention and Coaching School during the summer
    • THSCA F.A.S.T. Clinics scheduled by the THSCA throughout the year
  • Online Training
    • Available through the Atavus web site ($35 after August 1st, 2019)
      • See the link below for directions to online training

  • All coaches that are certified for the 2019-2020 school year will not have to be re-certified until August 1st of 2021 prior to the 2021-2022 school year.
  • A newly hired football coach after the 2019-2020 school year will have 30 days to complete the tackling certification if hired during the school year, or will have to complete the tackling certification prior to August 1st if hired during the summer.
  • All UIL coaches must be registered into the UIL Portal.  In order to for a coach to obtain an Atavus ID and log into the Atavus website the coach must be registered as a football coach in the UIL Portal.
