Water Polo Spring Training Practice Regulations

Staring in Spring 2026, the Legislative Council approved TISCA’s proposed two-year pilot program for the addition of an optional spring training period for UIL water polo programs.

To ensure a successful and compliant spring training, please follow all the guidelines provided below:

  • Only schools who have indicated to UIL that they will participate in water polo and have requested to be added to the UIL alignment for the 2026-2027 school year may conduct spring training sessions.

  • Students currently in grades 9-12 may participate in the spring training. Middle school students may not participate in spring training.

  • 15 practice opportunities over a 30-calendar-day window determined by the school district during the spring semester following the state swimming championships.

  • A maximum of 90 minutes per session and 360 minutes per week will be allowed outside the school day.

  • Schools may determine their 30 consecutive day window, as long as the first day starts no earlier than Monday, February 23 for 2026, and the last day of practice must occur prior to the last day of school.

  • School districts will be responsible for documenting compliance for this new program allowance.
