In connection with UIL Centennial Celebrations, the UIL State Track Meet directors Sheila Henderson and Traci Neely recognized the high schools that had won the most track state titles in the past 100 years of the League at the State Meet. The schools were Abilene High School (boys’ team), Andrews High School (boys’ team), Dallas Skyline High School (girls’ team), Refugio High School (boys’ and girls’ teams) and Lancaster High School (girls’ team).
Start of New Job Marked With Unprecedented Changes
By Traci Neely | Saturday, May 22, 2010 10:11 AM
Little did I know that the first two months working in the UIL office would be packed full of unprecedented events. I started work in late February, just in time to work the state championships for swimming and diving and the girls’ and boys’ basketball tournaments. Shortly thereafter, it seemed to calm down, and I was able to get a grasp on my new environment.
Then came the swine flu.
The end of April would bring a dilemma to the UIL that created historic consequences involving a very large number of spring sport athletes across the state.
The decision to cancel regional track meets brought on a deluge of public communication to the UIL office. The softball and baseball postponements created even more phone calls and frustrated athletes, coaches, school personnel and parents.
Finally, when all the events were rescheduled, some relief came but also so did some additional frustration. We knew that rescheduling events was the right thing to do, however it created more havoc on the previously adjusted details for softball, the late state track meet and other end of the year events such as high school graduations and senior prom.

The Legislative Council has approved the UIL Rules Compliance Program (RCP), which will be required for coaches and athletic trainers of grades 7-12 for the 2010-11 school year. The program is designed to bring an additional level of professionalism to the interscholastic teacher/coach.

UIL is 100 years old. In March, the Cross-Examination Debate State Meet was the actual 100th state competition the University Interscholastic League has sponsored. UIL held its first contest with 10 debate teams, each representing one of the 10 districts in the state. Now, 32 districts in five conferences vie for the state crown.
Journalism adviser’s husband continues to give and teach even after his death
By Jeanne Acton | Friday, April 23, 2010 2:43 PM
On the Monday after a district meet, I am a tad frightened of my phone. Those calls are not usually much fun.
So when Rhonda Moore, the academic coordinator and journalism coach for her school, called me, I figured the news wasn’t good.
And from her tone, I suspected we had a big problem.
We did. But it had nothing to do with the district meet.

The Importance of Adjudication
By Richard Floyd | Tuesday, March 16, 2010 2:44 PM
In 1991, I was asked to write an article on the importance of music adjudication and the vital role that our music directors play as music contest judges. The information in that article is as pertinent today as it was when first written almost 20 years ago. Please feel free to share these comments regarding adjudication with your principal and other administrators.
Review New Official Fee Schedule Before Creating 2010-2011 Athletic Budget
By Cliff Odenwald | Friday, March 05, 2010 9:45 AM
It’s that time of year when school districts are finalizing their budgets for the 2010-2011 school year. Many athletic departments budgets are being reduced, and that leaves some major decisions to make when trying to offer the same opportunities for all students with fewer funds. To prepare your official’s portion of the athletic budget, reference the UIL Web site home page under “Amendments Approved by the Commissioner of Education” for the changes to the officials’ fee schedule in Section 1204 of the Constitution and Contest Rules.
