Different Instruments in Same Organization Event

Section 1102(b)(1)

Limited Competition. No student may perform with more than one ensemble in each organization event code. Refer to Section 1110. Exception: An instrumental student may participate with more than one ensemble in each organization event code, provided the student is performing on a different instrument in each ensemble. Refer to the UIL website for acceptable definitions of different instruments.

*As of 2016-2017 there is no longer a class enrollment requirement under Section 1102(b)(1). However, Section 1102(b)(2), sixth grade participation, maintains the class enrollment requirement.

Not Acceptable as Different Instruments:

1) Any Combination of Flute(s) and Piccolo

2) Oboe and English Horn

3) Any Combination of Clarinets

4) Bassoon and Contrabassoon

5) Any Combination of Saxophones

6) Any Combination of Trumpet, Cornet, and Flugelhorn

7) Any Combination of Trombones

8) Any Combination of Baritone, Euphonium, and Valve Trombone

9) Any Combination of Percussion Instruments (excluding Piano, Celeste, Harpsichord, or Synthesizer)
