10th Annual Texas Book Festival/UIL Fiction Writing Contest

The University Interscholastic League and the Texas Book Festival announce the 10th Annual Fiction Writing Contest. Texas junior high and high school students are invited to submit a piece of original fiction, no more than 2,000 words in length, to be judged by Texas authors, some of whom will appear at the 2011 Texas Book Festival, Oct. 22-23.

Entries should focus on the theme, “End of Days.” Judges will look for excellence in use of dialogue, character development, setting, plot, conflict, and resolution.

Contest Rules
1) Students must enter in one of three divisions: Grades 7-8, Grades 9-10 or Grades 11-12.  Authors enter the division for which they were a student during the 2010-2011 academic year. 
2) There is no entry fee. 
3) All entries must be submitted online at www.texasbookfestival.org/ between 3-31-11 and 5-31-11.
4) Entries must be 2,000 words or less, 12 point type, double-spaced, and written on the theme “End of Days.”  Please include your name, entry title, grade level, and an automated word count on the cover page of your entry. 
5) Judges will look for excellence in use of dialogue, imagery, character development, setting, plot, conflict and resolution.
6) Winners will be notified by October 2011.
