The University Interscholastic League (UIL) and the Texas Book Festival announce the 11th Annual Fiction Writing Contest. Texas junior high and high school students are invited to submit a piece of original fiction, no more than 2,000 words in length, to be judged by Texas authors, some of whom will appear at the 2012 Texas Book Festival, Oct. 27-28.
Entries should focus on the theme, “Out of the Blue.” Deadline extended to July 27, 2012.
The 2012 NCAA Football Rule Changes along with the UIL Exceptions to NCAA Football Rules (2012-2013 School Year) have been posted on the Football Rules and Guidelines page. This information may also be accessed via the corresponding links.
Please look over the tentative 12-13 calendar as some dates have been adjusted due to changes in testing dates. Let us know if you have comments or concerns.
A two-out-of-three series that does not get a complete game in by the end of the day Friday automatically reverts to a one game series.
If one game is played and a second game cannot be played on Saturday because of weather, then the winner of game one advances to the next round.
Rain (Bad Weather) Policy
Every effort must be made by both teams to determine the winner before the certification deadline. This includes obtaining neutral sites and securing any available field. This could mean giving up a home field advantage if another field is playable.
If weather conditions make it impossible to determine a winner before certification, UIL (Baseball Director, Darryl Beasley, 512-238-0968 and Softball Director, Peter Contreras, 512-393-1958) must be contacted for an extension. No request for extension of the deadline will be considered until Saturday afternoon. If any STAAR testing of any kind is taking place in the school, no playoff game can be scheduled on that day, as required by state law. Please know your STAAR testing schedule and your opponent's STAAR testing schedule before contacting the UIL for the extension. The next round opponent(s) must also be contacted to inform them that the deadline will be extended.
Extreme scheduling difficulties such as those mentioned above could result in a coin flip which would determine the representatives to the next round.
The UIL has released a statement concerning scheduling of softball and baseball post-season contests in conjunction with STAAR testing in the coming weeks.
