The University Interscholastic League exists to provide educational extracurricular academic, athletic, and music contests. The UIL was created by The University of Texas at Austin in 1910 and has grown into the largest inter-school organization of its kind in the world.

UIL NOW provides updates about events and information from around the UIL. From the first day of practice to the state championship, UIL NOW will keep you up to date on UIL information. The mission and performance of the University Interscholastic League (UIL) are currently being reviewed by the Legislature as required under the Texas Sunset Act. In 2013, the Legislature provided for the Sunset Commission, composed of legislators and public members, to review UIL, but unlike other state agencies undergoing Sunset review, it is not subject to abolishment under the Sunset Act.

An amendment to the University Interscholastic League Constitution and Contest Rules, passed by the Legislative Council in October 2013, will add wheelchair competition events as a pilot program to the 2014 Track and Field State Meet.

The Fiction Writing Contest encourages and rewards creative writing in Texas schools. This year's fiction writing contest theme is “The People Our Parents Warned Us About.”
Deadline to apply is June 2, 2014 and there is no entry fee.
