The 2016 1A/2A/3A/4A Texas State Solo & Ensemble Contest (all events) will be held on Saturday, May 28 (Day 1), *Sunday, May 29 (Day 2), and Monday, May 30 - Memorial Day (Day 3) at Hendrickson High School in Pflugerville.
The 2016 5A/6A Contest (all events except percussion) will be held on Saturday, May 28 (Day 1), *Sunday, May 29 (Day 2), and Monday, May 30 - Memorial Day (Day 3) at UT Austin.
The 2016 5A/6A Percussion Contest will be held on Saturday, May 28 (Day 1), *Sunday, May 29 (Day 2), and Monday, May 30 - Memorial Day (Day 3) at Connally High School in Pflugerville.
*To account for the continuing expected growth of the contest a limited number of performance times will be available on Sunday afternoon, May 29 on a first come-first served basis. Be advised if you choose Sunday your woodwind, brass, and string soloists will be less likely to perform for a specialist on their instrument than they would by choosing Saturday or Monday.
TSSEC Online Entry System: will be open for your 2016 entries from March 1 to April 1 at: http://utdirect.utexas.edu/tssec/index.WBX . The entry system will be set as follows. Be sure to choose the day that you intend. The system does not allow you to choose a specific time of day.
Day 1 = Saturday, May 28, 2016 (8:30 AM to 5:30 PM*)
Day 2 = Sunday, May 29, 2016 (1:30 PM to 5:30 PM*)
Day 3 = Monday, May 30, 2016 (8:30 AM to 5:30 PM*)
*Be advised at times a given day may be extended to as late as 8:30 PM to accommodate all performers within a division (band, choir, orchestra) from the same school that requested the same day and who met the April 1 deadline while a given day was still available.
Fees: 2016 Fees are $20 per solo and $10 per ensemble member.
Accompanists: Please know that the more students you assign to a given accompanist, the more difficult that it will be to schedule those students without causing logistical problems for your students. Careful planning in this area also aids in keeping the contest running on schedule.
Choir, Band, and Orchestra Schedule Coordination: If having students from your school in two or more divisions perform on the same day is important to you please coordinate on your campus and plan to complete all entries in each division early in March. Otherwise, one division's daily capacity could be reached and therefore closed, prohibiting your requested coordination of these events.
Keyboard Percussion Entries: If more than one keyboard soloist will be sharing an instrument please place an instrument designation in the accompanist box to help avoid schedule conflicts. For example, "marimba A", "marimba B", etc.
Entry Deadline: April 1, 2016. After this date the online entry system will be closed to the public. At this point all correspondence – including late entry requests – is to be made by contacting the state office at firstname.lastname@example.org. Instructions will then be sent via email to those directors wishing to submit late entries.
Late Entry Deadline: Friday, May 13, 2016 - Late Entry Fee: $20 per Event. (Due to the planning necessary for an event with approximately 25,000 participants there is no guarantee that late entries will be scheduled).
Cancellations (DNA's): At any point after initial entries are made you may email us at email@example.com to cancel any events. This helps to create performance availability and is especially important in May.
Master Schedule: will be released here on or shortly after May 1.
Schedule Change Requests: granted on an as-available basis and accepted from the date of the release of the master schedule up until May 19th by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
Entry Information Change Deadline: Thursday, May 19, 2016 (i.e., selections, personnel, etc.). Submit via email to email@example.com.
IMPORTANT: One of the more common reasons given for delaying entry until later in March is the possibility that students might want to change selections. Please go ahead and submit your entries. You can always change the title of selections (up to May 19) after completing your entries.
VERY IMPORTANT: As the contest days fill for each division (Band, Orchestra & Vocal) we will monitor the number of performance times available and close events for that day as we reach full capacity. If having your students perform on a specific day is important to you we suggest that you enter as soon as possible. Be advised that a given day for a given division (especially Sunday) could close very early in March.
EXTREMELY IMPORTANT: Once you begin the entry process plan to finish it ASAP. If we close the day before you return to complete your entry you will find you do not have the option of adding more events on that day. Additionally, print your invoice immediately after completing your entries, as external access to the invoice after entries are submitted is not possible and can only be given to you via email by contacting us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
