Frequently Asked Questions by Adjudicators

What does AO stand for?

Adjudicator’s Organization.

What does TETA stand for?

Texas Educational Theatre Association.

Are UIL and TETA the same organization?

NO. UIL is part of the University of Texas at Austin. TETA is a non-profit organization comprised of volunteers. There is no office or physical address for TETA, just a PO Box.

How much are my dues?

AO dues are $35. AO By-Law requires you to also pay your TETA membership dues at the same time, unless you are the Institutional Member representative for your school. TETA membership dues are $50 adult, $20 student, $10 retired, $100 IM, $100 Organization/Business, or $500 Life.

When do I pay dues?

Annually by Sept. 15. If you pay after Sept. 15, you must pay a late fee of $35. Notices are mailed to you in April with an invitation to State Meet and again in August with your reviews.

How do I know if I’m the IM Rep?

Ask your department chair.

If I am the IM rep., what dues do I pay and when do I pay them?

Annually, AO dues ($35) by Sept. 15 and IM dues ($100) by Nov. 1.

Where do I send my dues?

TETA, PO Box 15990, Austin, Tx 78761. All mailings include a pre-addressed envelope.

Why can’t I send my AO dues to UIL?

UIL is a state institution and cannot accept monies for another organization. TETA, Inc. is a non-profit organization that administers the Adjudicator’s Organization and provides training and certification of adjudicators for UIL competitions.

How can I pay for my dues?

Check (school or personal), money order or cashier’s check. Do not send cash through the US postal system. TETA does not accept purchase orders or credit cards.

Who do I make my check or money order payable to?

TETA, Inc.

How do I update my Bio, contact information, judging record?

Email bio or contact information annually to the TETA/AO Administrative assistant (see the TETA website). You are sent a copy of your judging record each year to review and update. Changes in contact information should be reported immediately.

Is Luis Munoz, State Theatre Director, in charge of the AO?

No. The chair of the AO committee is in charge of the AO. The State Theatre Director sits on the committee as an advisor.

If I’m a graduate student, can I pay student dues?

Yes, but you are not able to vote at the general TETA business meeting and may not be listed on the TETA on-line directory.

How often must I re-certify?

You are required to re-certify every five years. It is recommended that you do your re-certification during your fourth year to avoid a lapse in your certification.

When are the certification or re-certification classes?

Annually at the TETA TheatreFest Convention. The class is always on the Thursday of convention. New adjudicators must attend all day and those re- certifying must only attend the afternoon sessions.

If I do not wish to judge this year but would like to next year, what should I do?

Pay your dues on time and send a note indicating that you do not wish to be listed on the website this year. If you fail to pay your dues, you must re-apply and go through the certification process again.

How do I find the list of Adjudicators?

Go to the TETA website www.tetatx.com, go to committees, click on Adjudicator’s Organization, click on the link to the list. OR go to the UIL website www.uiltexas.org/theatre/judges. A partial list is also printed in the Leaguer each October and is updated in November and February.
