Spring 2012 UIL Anabolic Steroid Testing Report

The UIL Anabolic Steroid Testing Report for the spring of 2012 has been released by the UIL. The statistical report of the testing program that took place between January 2012 and May 2012 includes information such as the total number of tests conducted, the number of positive results and the breakdown of student-athletes tested by sport and gender.

Of the 1,747 tests conducted, there were five (5) confirmed positive results and two (2) protocol violations. One protocol violation resulted from a selected student that did not report for testing and the other was a result of a substituted specimen.

Of the 112 schools where tests were conducted, 1,643 boys were tested representing 11 sports and 104 girls were tested representing 10 sports. The sports with the most student-athletes tested were football for males (698) and a tie between basketball, soccer and softball for females (13).  The total number of student-athletes tested for each sport, includes multiple sport participants. Therefore, the individual sport numbers will differ from the total number of athletes tested. Overall, there were 537 senior student-athletes tested, the most of any grade level.
