Judging qualifications:
I bring 10 years of elementary teaching experience, a master's degree in Educational Leadership, and personal experience participating in UIL as a student. In high school, I competed in writing events, Prose and Poetry, and One-Act Play, which gave me a strong appreciation for the creativity, expression, and confidence these competitions foster in students. I also later served as an elementary UIL Storytelling coach, which further strengthened my experience in supporting and evaluating student performance and communication skills. My professional background includes literacy instruction, writing development, oral expression, and providing meaningful feedback to students. Because of both my UIL participation and my educational experience, I feel especially qualified to judge Prose/Poetry. I enjoy encouraging students, recognizing their strengths, and celebrating the hard work they put into their performances.

Approach: Communication skills and resolution of substantive issues are of equal importance
Philosophy:
My judging philosophy emphasizes fairness, clear communication, thoughtful reasoning, and well-supported arguments. I value students who can confidently articulate their positions, support their ideas with meaningful evidence, and thoughtfully respond to opposing viewpoints. I believe both the strength of an argument and the ability to communicate it effectively are important. My goal is to evaluate each debate objectively, recognizing students' preparation, critical thinking, and persuasive skills while providing constructive, encouraging feedback.
