Judging qualifications:
Ive competed in all speech events and I’ve placed at the state level 8 times and have had State Champion Metals as well as State Runner up Medals. Additionally,I’ve judged at various tournaments while in high school and have done speech and debate demonstrations at various UIL Super Conferences.
My philosophy for judging is to give actual constructive criticism that will aid the competitor as much as possible. That means not sugar coating anything and being straight to the point in a way that is still respectful because I don’t believe in being just plainly rude to a competitor.
Judging Philosophy
CX
Judging approach: Tabula Rasa
Policy priority: Communication skills and resolution of substantive issues are of equal importance
Evidence philosophy: Quality of evidence is more important than quantity of evidence
Paradigm: I am very much a Tab judge and believe whatever side makes the most warranted arguments should win.
LD
Approach: Communication skills are more important than resolution of substantive issues
Philosophy:
I value organization and proper communication of one’s case. I can’t decide on anything if I don’t understand what’s being presented.
