My qualifications to judge CX are that I have competed in CX for two years, I have competed in Extemp for four years, Ld for two years, PF for two years, and Congress for one year. I competed in debate for four years, and during that time, I competed in Cx state twice, and competed in National debate three times, and competed in regionals for Extemp and Current events for three years both.
Judging Philosophy
CX
Judging approach: Tabula Rasa
Policy priority: Communication skills are more important than resolution of substantive issues
Evidence philosophy: Quality of evidence is more important than quantity of evidence
Paradigm: For me, as a CX judge, I heavily dislike spreading. As long as I can understand what you are saying, I will vote on it, but if you speak too fast, I will not follow it because it becomes hard to understand. What I want from the actual debate is that the teams can give quality information to debate on, and don't focus on one certain thing, whether it be the harms or the timeline. I would prefer teams to work down the flow. I am not too picky, but I absolutely do not want any spreading because, to me, it really hurts the debate round.
