Judging Philosophy
CX
Judging approach: Tabula Rasa
Policy priority: Communication skills and resolution of substantive issues are of equal importance
Evidence philosophy: Quality of evidence is more important than quantity of evidence
Paradigm: I value clear, persuasive debate over argument dumping. Speed is fine, but clarity matters — please do not spread. If I can’t understand you, I can’t flow you. I judge on the flow and expect arguments to be consistently extended and consolidated. Dropped arguments matter and will be flowed to the other team. I prefer depth, comparison, and strategic collapse over covering everything. I’m open to theory as long as it’s clearly explained and tied to the round. Framework is extremely important to me. The affirmative should establish one, and both teams should engage it throughout the debate. I vote based on the team that wins the framework and links it to the most substantial, well-weighed impacts. Don’t make me decide why you won — tell me. Strong, respectful clash in cross-examination is encouraged.

Philosophy:
I value clear, persuasive debate over speed for speed’s sake. I’m fine with faster speaking as long as you remain understandable — clarity always comes first. I judge on the flow and expect consistent extensions and comparison throughout the round. Dropped arguments matter. Strategic collapse and weighing are far more persuasive than covering everything superficially. Framework is very important to me. Values and criteria should be clearly explained and actively used to evaluate the round, not just read at the top and forgotten. I vote for the debater who best wins the framework and demonstrates why their impacts matter most under it. Do not assume I’ll do the weighing for you — tell me why you win. I’m open to theory and philosophical arguments, but they must be clearly explained and applied to the round. Cross-examination should advance strategy and remain respectful.
