Judging qualifications:
I am qualified to judge UIL speech events through both competitive and evaluative experience in academic speaking. I won UIL State in Humorous Interpretation my sophomore year of high school, giving me firsthand insight into the preparation, performance quality, and interpretation standards expected at the highest level of UIL competition. I am familiar with UIL speech events including Informative Speaking, Persuasive Speaking, Prose Interpretation, Poetry Interpretation, Humorous Interpretation, and Extemporaneous Speaking, and I understand the distinct criteria for each. My judging philosophy emphasizes fairness, clarity, and educational growth; I evaluate speakers according to UIL rubrics with attention to content, organization, delivery, interpretation, and audience engagement. As a former competitor, I value both technical precision and authentic performance, and I strive to provide constructive, specific feedback that rewards excellence while helping students develop as confident and effective communicators.
