Judging qualifications:
I bring both coaching and competitive experience in poetry and prose interpretation. I have coached students in poetry and prose, guiding them in performance technique, textual analysis, interpretation, and audience engagement. As a competitor, I was a state finalist in poetry interpretation in 2005 and earned the state championship in 1A poetry interpretation in 2006. As a judge, I value performances that demonstrate a deep understanding of the text, intentional vocal and physical choices, emotional authenticity, and clear communication of the author’s message. I believe strong interpretation balances technical skill with genuine connection, allowing the performance to honor the text while showcasing the performer’s unique voice. My goal as a judge is to provide fair, thoughtful evaluations and constructive feedback that supports growth and excellence in competitive performance.
