Judging Philosophy

CX

Rounds judged: 12
Judging approach: Stock Issues
Policy priority: Communication skills and resolution of substantive issues are of equal importance
Evidence philosophy: Quantity of evidence and quality of evidence are of equal importance
Paradigm: I tend to view myself as conservative and traditional judge. The time requires are specific to each event when judging Policy I favor stock issues or policy analysis that use links of evidence to support claims of inherency, definitional analysis and policy actions, I expect all speakers to clearly articulate their tags slurring is discouraged and plan passage, funding and impact story should be easy to follow.

LD

Rounds judged: 6
Approach: Communication skills and resolution of substantive issues are of equal importance
Philosophy:
When judging LD I taught this for twenty years and I tend to focus on intent of resolution and the burdens of each speaker. I don't favor critiques, nor do I want the negative to present a counter plan. I want a value and standard (criteria) to be clearly linked and supported by properly cited evidence to build credibility by each speaker in the round.
