Judging qualifications:
I have been coaching speech and debate for the past two years at Karen Wagner High School in the Judson Independent School District. When I was a high school student I competed in prose, poetry, Number Sense, Chemistry, Computer Programming, and Duet acting. In my private life, I served as a researchers for the Libertarian Party presidential candidate, Chase Oliver, in 2024. I ran for U.S. Congress as a Libertarian in 2018 and 2020 so I am unbiased for or against either of the two main party philosophies.

Judging Philosophy

CX

Rounds judged: 0
Judging approach: Policy Maker
Policy priority: Communication skills and resolution of substantive issues are of equal importance
Evidence philosophy: Quality of evidence is more important than quantity of evidence
Paradigm: I want the speaker to persuade me to their point of view and not simply spit out facts like a copying machine gone haywire. It is imperative that the facts be presented in a persuasive manner so that the reasoning and logic can be emphasized. Spreading does nothing for me. Also, as a disabled vet with some slight hearing damage, spreading is difficult to follow at times. I cannot award points if I cannot understand what is being said.

LD

Rounds judged: 10
Approach: Communication skills and resolution of substantive issues are of equal importance
Philosophy:
An opponent does not necessarily need to address every single point brought up in a debate in order to win. So long as the main argument is well-justified, then the debater who addresses it best is the one who is favored, especially if done persuasively.
