Judging Philosophy
CX
Judging approach: Policy Maker
Policy priority: Communication skills and resolution of substantive issues are of equal importance
Evidence philosophy: Quality of evidence is more important than quantity of evidence
Paradigm:
LD
Approach: Communication skills and resolution of substantive issues are of equal importance
Philosophy:
resolution of substantive skills is absolutely vital to the life of the debate, but if one competitor is speaking in such a way that their opponent or judge is unable to clearly understand each major point or using excessive jargon, it is detrimental to the debate and provides a disadvantage for the other competitor and reduces the quality of the debate. Each point should be stated clearly, but when considering the overall debate, quality of the argument is the most important. Value-Criterion takes precedence over contentions, if one side fails to effectively argue against the value-criterion, they will most likely lose the debate.
