Judging Philosophy

CX

Rounds judged: 150
Judging approach: Tabula Rasa
Policy priority: Communication skills and resolution of substantive issues are of equal importance
Evidence philosophy: Quantity of evidence and quality of evidence are of equal importance
Paradigm: In policy debate I'm pretty flexible about how I evaluate a round, I appreciate debaters who give good judge instructions, lots of roadmapping, signposting and clear weighing. Speed isn't a problem as long as the debater can still be understood.

LD

Rounds judged: 150
Approach: Communication skills and resolution of substantive issues are of equal importance
Philosophy:
I am a more traditional LD judge, especially when judging UIL tournaments. I do not have much appreciation for the new blending of policy debate methods into LD, I prefer LD remain a values debate.
