UIL Speech Judges

Judging qualifications:
Judging qualifications: l competed in Congress, LD debate, and extemporaneous speaking. In congress and extemp l qualified for stale once in extemp, twice in congress, and won districts and qualified for semis in LD debate at regionals. Philosophy: LD debate: The substance of arguments matters more than the presentation and FW needs to be consistent and the focal point of the case. I can tolerate speed, but do not spread.I will call clear if I can no longer flow, but if the speed doesn't slow I will stop flowing args. I will vote on the strongest FW in the round as long as it's supported throughout the entirety of the case. I am a more traditional judge, but I will take K’s as long as the literature is explained. Extemporaneous speaking: having clear speech structure is most important in both informative and persuasive. For speaking, one should have confidence and deliver their speech in a calm and conversational manner. Congress: Because of the speech length, it's important to present arguments only if they are unique or will influence the chamber. Make sure to respond to other representatives and be active in the chamber.
