Judging Philosophy

CX

Rounds judged: 0
Judging approach: Stock Issues
Policy priority: Communication skills and resolution of substantive issues are of equal importance
Evidence philosophy: Quantity of evidence and quality of evidence are of equal importance
Paradigm: CX Judging - I am a basic stock issues judge - I am looking for strong communication skills, topical arguments, and the ability to clearly explain the links within a team's own case and their link turns for their opponent's case. I do not prefer kritiks or any other form of non-topical argument. I do not want teams to spread during CX debate - debate is a communication-based activity, and spreading makes it impossible for teams to communicate well with each other or the judge.

LD

Rounds judged: 2
Approach: Communication skills and resolution of substantive issues are of equal importance
Philosophy:
LD judging - In LD, I primarily judge the round based on how well each debater explained their framework and then successfully attacked their opponent's framework. I value quality evidence in LD debate, but I want to see value-criterion clash more than a wealth of evidence - evidence should support a value-criterion framework. I do not prefer kritiks or any other form of non-topical argument. I do not want debaters to spread during LD debate - debate is a communication-based activity, and spreading makes it impossible for teams to communicate well with each other or the judge.
