I participated in my high school's speech team back in 2016 in the Chicago Suburbs. I'm not sure how the Illinois conference sizes compare to the ones in Texas, but my high school was ~3000 students and we typically competed in conferences/tournaments with schools of similar sizes. I won my regional tournament and qualified for sectionals in my time as a competitor
