Judging Philosophy

CX

Rounds judged: 0
Judging approach: Stock Issues
Policy priority: Communication skills and resolution of substantive issues are of equal importance
Evidence philosophy: Quantity of evidence and quality of evidence are of equal importance
Paradigm: I consider myself a stock issues judge. The affirmative plan must meet the terms of the resolution, demonstrate harms as they exist in the status quo, affirm the significance of the problem at hand, convey the inherent barriers in place, and prove solvency. The negative must attack these pillars with evidence and these attacks must be refuted for the affirmative team to be successful. I do not enter with preconceived ideas about the arguments. I do allow spreading, but arguments must be presented clearly. In making a decision, I will analyze the skill of analysis, the use of evidence, the validity of arguments, the clarity of organization, and the effectiveness of a speaker's delivery.

LD

Rounds judged: 0
Approach: Resolution of substantive issues is more important than communication skills
Philosophy:
In short, the best argument will win. The ability of a speaker will be judged, but the issues are most important. I bring a noninterventionist approach. My personal preferences on the topic are set to the side. Debaters should uphold their chosen value and present clear voting issues at the end of a debate. Drops by either side will be noted.
