Judging qualifications:
I was the UIL 1A informative extemporaneous speaking champion in 2010, and a finalist in 2009. I have previously judged over 100 invitationals across the Houston area, as well as district and regional meets. I have also judged the state tournament on 4 occasions. I took some time off to attend law school in DC and have now returned to Houston where I am a practicing attorney. I am looking forward to returning to judging more frequently now that I’m back in Texas, and helping young people nurture the passions for speech and debate!

Judging Philosophy

CX

Rounds judged: 2
Judging approach: Policy Maker
Policy priority: Communication skills and resolution of substantive issues are of equal importance
Evidence philosophy: Quantity of evidence and quality of evidence are of equal importance
Paradigm: I have a balanced approach to judging CX - identify the issues for me, give me solutions, and support those solutions with evidence. All the while, don’t forget this is a speaking event and how you conduct yourself in a round is also critical to your results.

LD

Rounds judged: 12
Approach: Communication skills and resolution of substantive issues are of equal importance
Philosophy:
Don’t just argue - lay it all out for me! Make it easy to understand, don’t become combative, and most importantly, make sure you don’t miss anything! The beauty of LD is how each student can have their own style, but as long as they cover their side, they have a chance to win!
