Judging qualifications:
I have coached CX, LD, and the various other speaking events for 34 years through UIL and TFA. I have been judging district and regional competitions for 30 years. In CX I have not set paradigm. I have utilized them dall in coaching and allow the teams to tell me what they are using. I have taken LDers, extempers, and prose and poetry to Regionals too many times to count and have judge at every level but state. I have competed in CX debate with my teams 3 times. i have been a UIL Coordinator for 5 years, OAP director for 15 and spent 34 years coaching and judging all the other events in including congress.
Judging Philosophy
CX
Judging approach: Stock Issues
Policy priority: Resolution of substantive issues is more important than communication skills
Evidence philosophy: Quality of evidence is more important than quantity of evidence
Paradigm: I was trained originally as a stock issue judge but have learned to weigh the argument using different paradigms for years. I am not locked into on paradigm and prefer the debaters tell me upfront the paradigm they are using.

Approach: Communication skills and resolution of substantive issues are of equal importance
Philosophy:
This is not a policy debate but instead a value debate. Keep it that way. Pull the value and criteria through and persuasively argue why you value and criteria best uphold the side of the resolution you are arguing.
