Judging Philosophy

CX

Rounds judged: 12
Judging approach: Policy Maker
Policy priority: Communication skills and resolution of substantive issues are of equal importance
Evidence philosophy: Quality of evidence is more important than quantity of evidence
Paradigm: Critical thinking and communication of position is of prime importance. I will rarely decide a round on topicality, yet I believe that topical debate is an essential facet of a round. K /theory is acceptable but should be a PART of the round, not the entirety of the neg strategy. Affirmative should be able to set the terms of the round, not neg only. I will not award a round on intersectionality concerns alone, but will be weighed with the entirety of the evidence.

LD

Rounds judged: 10
Approach: Communication skills and resolution of substantive issues are of equal importance
Philosophy:
LD debate is considered to be the more “persuasive” between the comparison of Ld & cx. However, we live in a moment in time when emotional persuasion has replaced critical thinking. Therefore, I am especially averse to ad hominem attacks in this event and require civility at every turn. I expect solid reasoning and critical thinking on both sides, communication is essential...spreading is okay but must be understandable.
