Judging qualifications:
I did policy debate all 4 years of High School in Oxford Hills Maine. We traveled New England Extensively competing. I competed at Nationals (CFL) in 95 and 96. I went to law school at SMU and worked with moot court and mock trial. I've been a debate teacher and mock trial coach for the last 5 years for Uplift Charter Schools. My philosophy is about the students and their experience first. I know that even now 20 years later my experience as a high school debater is still influential in life and memories. I want to give that opportunity to our students now as well. I also know first hand that a good or bad judge can make or ruin a tournament. I believe judges should be fair, offer constructive advice, and promote the league.

Judging Philosophy

CX

Rounds judged: 0
Judging approach: Stock Issues
Policy priority: Communication skills and resolution of substantive issues are of equal importance
Evidence philosophy: Quantity of evidence and quality of evidence are of equal importance
Paradigm: I'm a pretty open minded judge, and will listen to the debaters for how they think they should win. If left to my own accord I typically look for the pieces. Did they respond to arguments, did they have the core pieces necessary for a solid policy etc. But my first instinct is to listen to what the debaters are telling me and weighing at the end.

Approach: Communication skills and resolution of substantive issues are of equal importance
Philosophy:
I'm a similar judge for Lincoln Douglas, I will listen to the debaters and look for them to give me the reason they're winning and how I should be judging them. If they don't do this, I typically look for a way to weigh the values at the end and look for who has presented the best arguments.
