Judging qualifications:
I studied debate with Dr. Paul King during my time at TCU and I thought I could get back in to it by judging more high school debates. Part of the course was judging UIL debates in Granbury and I remember thoroughly enjoying it. I earned a BS in International Economics from TCU and continued to study International Economic Relations, earning an MA from the University of Denver. With that, I have high qualifications to judge the soundness of evidence in a CX debate grappling with political and economic issues. Furthermore, I work in business sales and recognize quality communication where I see it in a way to effectively judge those skills during these competitions.

Judging Philosophy

CX

Rounds judged: 0
Judging approach: Policy Maker
Policy priority: Communication skills and resolution of substantive issues are of equal importance
Evidence philosophy: Quality of evidence is more important than quantity of evidence
Paradigm: I would give the highest marks to a team which effectively deployed the right evidence at the right time during each round rather than a rapid fire presentation trying to bludgeon an opponent with a high volume, poorly communicated thread of argumentation.

LD

Rounds judged: 0
Approach: Communication skills are more important than resolution of substantive issues
Philosophy:
I'd give more weight to a well communicated argument in the LD format as long as the issues are effectively resolved and counterarguments are addressed.
