Judging Philosophy

CX

Rounds judged: 20
Judging approach: Policy Maker
Policy priority: Resolution of substantive issues is more important than communication skills
Evidence philosophy: Quality of evidence is more important than quantity of evidence
Paradigm: I prefer both teams determine how I should evaluate the round. I am open to critical arguments, but I am also comfortable judging the round from a policy perspective. I expect the Neg block to be split and I will not evaluate any new answer in the 2AR. It is expected to compare evidence and arguments instead of endlessly extending an argument. Tell me why I should prefer your argument over the other team's argument instead of forcing me to intervene for a team.

LD

Rounds judged: 30
Approach: Resolution of substantive issues is more important than communication skills
Philosophy:
I expect both debaters to use voters to tell me why I should vote for them. I do not believe most affirmatives have time to go line-by-line in either rebuttal so stick to the big picture and in the last rebuttal, just spend time on 2-3 voters. I am have a policy background so I am open to a wide variety of arguments, but if no explanation is given on how I should evaluate an argument I will default to my policy background.
