Judging qualifications:
I participated in UIL from middle school until high school. I competed in LD for my sophomore and junior years and also competed in extemp occasionally. In almost every tournament I competed in for LD I advanced and got second place in my very first tournament. For extemp, I did participate often but usually did well when I did. I also taught other students in high school about debate and was co-captain starting my junior year.

Approach: Communication skills and resolution of substantive issues are of equal importance
Philosophy:
I believe the ability to clearly explain your side is vital, especially for the affirmative because they begin the debate. The most important thing in a debate to me however, is winning the value/contention argument. Both sides must clearly state their v/c at the beginning and be consistent throughout the debate and also argue why the other sides v/c fails, in order to win.
