I have had students qualify for state and/or place in informative speaking, persuasive speaking and prose interpretation. I was UIL coordinator for 14 years and we won district 12 years. I had LDers qualify for regional competition 12 times. I had students compete in all the above events in tournaments in the Dallas, Austin and Waco areas. I served on the Regional Advisory Committee for many years and am a member of the National Forensic League. My students have placed 1st, 2nd or 3rd at many tournaments and we have won sweepstakes numerous time. I have often judged at state.

Judging Philosophy

Rounds judged:
Judging approach: stock issues
Policy priority: Equal
Evidence philosophy: equal
Paradigm: I am predominately a stock issues judge. I think arguments can be presented and evaluated better when in an easy-to-flow format. I like overviews, tags, sign posting and road mapping, paraphrasing and summaries. I will vote on "T" only if it is case specific and topicality violations must have standards. I like DA's to be tagged link, brink and impact and to also be case specific. I will, however, vote on a generic DA but it must have merit and be run well. I don't mind counter plans if it meets all CP standards. I absolutely do not like kritiks.

Rounds judged:
Approach: Equal
I like LDers to also have structure and to pay attention to time restraints. Debaters need to spend as much time building and rebuilding his/her case as the debater does negating the opponent's case. I do not like dropped arguments and like the debater to tag and signpost throughout the round. I like to see the value and criterion upheld throughout the round and to show superiority over the opponent's value and criterion. I also like a lot of scenarios that extend on contentions.
