Covid-19 Music Information

Updated 04/03/2020

Remote Learning/Coaching:

During statewide school suspension, remote learning/coaching of UIL activities is allowed through electronic, video or teleconferencing type methods. Schools shall limit instruction for UIL activities to a maximum of eight hours per week per activity, in addition to a maximum of sixty minutes per day Monday through Friday.

Dear UIL Music Stakeholders:
The email below was sent to superintendents this morning. In addition, please see the updates at the following link related to UIL activities and COVID-19:
Thank you for your patience and leadership as we continue to determine the best course of action for our remaining 2019-2020 activities.
Dr. Bradley Kent
UIL Music Director

We continue to be amazed at the great work by public schools across Texas during this crisis. Thanks to each of you for your leadership and vision for serving students in innovative and creative ways.
With the recent order by Governor Abbott closing schools across the state until May 4th, UIL has worked to further modify contingency plans for completing UIL activities this academic year. These modifications are based on schools resuming operations on May 4th and as that date approaches, UIL will monitor all of the available information and communicate any needed adjustments.
We are still committed to providing a reasonable acclimatization period for rehearsals and practices to occur, consistent with guidance from local, state, and federal officials, prior to students returning to competition. This acclimatization period may include the opportunity to compete in tournaments, meets and invitational competitions. We will provide more guidance and specificity on this in the coming weeks to allow time for you to plan and prepare. This includes providing more specific guidance on district and post-season date adjustments related to this new extension. Please do not begin to make plans for district competition prior to receiving this additional information. Again, once we have more information approaching May 4th, we will provide those details to you for planning purposes.
Practices, rehearsals, and workouts remain suspended until further notice. The previously communicated information allowing remote instruction remains in place.
Again, this is based on the information available at this time. Should further changes be required, we will communicate them to you as quickly as we can.
Please know we welcome your input, concerns, and questions.
Again, thank you for your leadership and for your patience. We are in this together!
Jamey Harrison, EdD
UIL Deputy Director
