TILF Scholarships

All applicants must meet the main scholarship requirements and should also consider any additional requirements listed by the following individual donors. Please note, however, that applicants are applying directly to the program and not for a specific scholarship. Our donors and board members are the ones who make the final determination.

Recipients must attend The University of Texas at Austin and major in computer sciences, engineering, or natural sciences.

Recipient must attend a four-year state supported college or university and must maintain a minimum 2.5 GPA.

Mary Dickey ScholarshipAward of $1,000 paid in its entirety after the 12th class day of the fall semester of the first year.Scholarship will be awarded to one student each year who has received best actor, best actress or outstanding technician in any conference at the UIL State One-Act Play Contest. Candidate must major in theatre teacher training and plan to pursue a career in theatre as a theatre arts teacher in public schools or colleges. Panhandle Chapter of TSCPA ScholarshipsAwards of $2,500 each, payable $250 each semester for up to five yearsFor the top three scorers of the UIL district Accounting contest that are from the schools within the 25 counties that comprise the geographic area of the Panhandle Chapter of the TSCPA. Recipients must enroll full time, major in accounting and maintain a minimum 3.0 college GPA. The scholarship is limited to one per student.
Dr. Nelson Gray Patrick Memorial Music ScholarshipAward of $1,000, payable $500 each semester of the first yearRecipient must have made a division rating of I or II in a solo performance at the UIL State Solo Contest. Preference given to applicants majoring in music.
Red Oak FoundationAwards of $4,800 each, payable $600 each semester for four yearsFor contestants in any UIL academic event who declare the intention to teach in the public school system in Texas. Recipients must show a financial need and maintain a 2.75 GPA while taking at least 12 hours each semester at a state supported four-year university in Texas or Texas Wesleyan University. Applicants must also submit a statement with their on-line application stating in 150 words or less why they want to teach in the public school system, grades K-12.

The Welch FoundationAwards of $14,000 each, payable $1,750 each semester for four yearsRecipients may attend any of the Texas colleges or universities approved by The Welch Foundation as listed on the TILF website at www.uiltexas.org/tilf/scholarships/schools. Recipients must major in chemistry, biochemistry or chemical engineering and be willing to engage in chemical research at the graduate level. Recipients must maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA. Applicants will also need to submit a statement with their on-line application stating in 150 words or less why they desire to major in chemistry, biochemistry or chemical engineering.
Dorothy Sue Whited Memorial ScholarshipAward of $1,000, payable $500 each semester of the first yearFor contestants in the UIL speech and debate contests. Recipients must attend The University of Texas at Austin and be enrolled in the business or engineering schools.

Additional Scholarships

Scholarship Details
Angelo State University Angelo State University awards one-year UIL Scholarships to first place seniors who win at the Region I-4A UIL academic competition and attend Angelo State. Those senior regional winners who win the state competition will receive another $1,000 UIL Scholarship. In addition, Carr Academic Scholarships ranging from $1,500 to $3,000 per year are available to qualified students. Texas Woman's University Scholarships are available for the first place UIL winners in Journalism, Speech, One-Act Play or Ready Writing, and to winners or runners-up in Debate. Contact the Director of Financial Aid, Texas Woman's University, PO Box 425408, Denton, TX 76204-5408.
