TILF General Information
A Service of the University Interscholastic League
This school year, the Texas Interscholastic League Foundation will disburse over $1 million in scholarships to more than 600 students. To be eligible to apply for a TILF scholarship, students must have participated in a UIL Academic State Meet during their high school career. Participation in Athletic or Music contests does not qualify a student to apply for a TILF scholarship.
Yesterday
Over $24 million, that's how much the Texas Interscholastic League Foundation has given since 1959 to more than 16,000 Texas high school students who have competed in the UIL Academic State Meet.
Rodney J. Kidd, former UIL Director and founder of TILF planted the idea of giving scholarships to the academically talented when there were not many scholarships available to the academically talented. Records indicate that 13 students had received one year, $50 and $100 scholarships, with a total value under $1,000.
Today
During a typical academic year, TILF will disburse more than $1 million to more than 600 students attending colleges and universities throughout Texas. TILF received more than 700 applications in 2010 and awarded approximately 354 new and renewed 260 scholarships.
The TILF has over $10 million in endowed funds and receives direct scholarship grants each year of more than $800,000 from foundations, individuals and corporate sponsors throughout the state. TILF anticipates disbursing over $1 million during the 2011-2012 academic year.
Tomorrow
The TILF Board of Directors and staff are dedicated to finding more scholarship money for the TILF Scholarship Program.
