I have 12 years in education as a speech and reading teacher. I have a Speech certification with the state of Texas for ages 6-12. I put together,trained, and guided a team all year long in debate for a campus in Arlington ISD.

Approach: Communication skills are more important than resolution of substantive issues
Personal prejudices of the judge on the topic are to be set aside. The best argument wins, not the best sounding speaker. I feel this is a debate, not an interpretive event. I am the judge and the debaters’ job is to convince me. The activity is specifically designed for presentation to “lay” audiences; if a debater is too esoteric, or too fast, or too complicated, it is the debater who doesn’t know what he or she is doing, not the judge.
