Rounds judged: 0
Approach: Communication skills are more important than resolution of substantive issues
Philosophy:
Personal prejudices of the judge on the topic are to be set aside. The best argument wins, not the best sounding speaker. I feel this is a debate, not an interpretive event. I am the judge and the debaters’ job is to convince me. The activity is specifically designed for presentation to “lay” audiences; if a debater is too esoteric, or too fast, or too complicated, it is the debater who doesn’t know what he or she is doing, not the judge.
