I have participated in Informative Speaking, Poetry/prose, and CX Debate in high school. I have also been the assistant coach to Wendy Miller at Lone Oak High School for 3 years. We have had competitors in Octofinals at State as well as regional medalists. I have judged on multiple occasions and have thorough experience in proper speaking and interpretation.

Judging approach: Stock Issues
Policy priority: Communication skills and resolution of substantive issues are of equal importance
Evidence philosophy: Quality of evidence is more important than quantity of evidence
Paradigm: Speaking ability is extremely important, but it is also imperative that the students actually understand their policy. I do not like logic arguments and generally, prefer those that truly analyze the policy risks. It is important that the evidence be both recent and properly applicable. Catch all arguments do not impress me. I believe that debate should be focused around furthering the education of the students and I prefer that students understand and properly articulate their arguments and policies, rather than just playing the game.
