Judging qualifications:
I competed in UIL LD for four years, attending four district meets, two regional meets, and several invitational meets. I also competed in the Texas Forensics Association (TFA) and National Speech and Debate Association (NSDA) for 4 years, qualifying for TFA state in LD twice. I am familiar with judging, having judged at the NSDA national middle school tournament, and judging this 2017-2018 year.

Approach: Communication skills and resolution of substantive issues are of equal importance
LD debate places importance on questioning WHY something matters or doesn't matter, and debaters have the responsibility to persuade the judge of WHY that something does or doesn't matter. To do this a debate must show developed and refined communication skills, as well as a clear ability to address several arguments in a critical way that exemplifies the philosophical nature of LD.
