Judging qualifications:
I competed in LD debate all four years of high school while dabbling in extemp and prose/poetry. Since then I've judged for several schools in Texas but lived in Georgia for the past two years where debate is considerably less competitive and tournaments are near impossible to find. I just recently moved back and the only tournament I've judged so far was the regional tournament on April 7th and 8th and I had such a blast being there. I would love to go on to judge state this year and hopefully be able to judge every weekend when the next school year starts. I love to travel and am willing to go as far as I need to to judge. While I judge LD predominately, I have also judged Extemp, Prose/Poetry, CX, and PFD and am not opposed to learning new events.

Judging Philosophy

CX

Rounds judged: 0
Judging approach: Stock Issues
Policy priority: Communication skills are more important than resolution of substantive issues
Evidence philosophy: Quality of evidence is more important than quantity of evidence
Paradigm: I've only judged CX a few times but as I don't have as much of a background in it as LD, I generally ask debaters to speak clearly and make sure they explain their points well so I have something to judge off of.

LD

Rounds judged: 5
Approach: Communication skills and resolution of substantive issues are of equal importance
Philosophy:
I like a good value criterion debate. I want to hear why your V/C are better than your opponents and how it upholds your case. In addition, if you can show me a better world through using your V/C and looking through your case than your opponent can, then you win the round. Also, if you're going to use a lot of speed, please speak clearly or I won't be able to flow your speech.
