Approach: Communication skills and resolution of substantive issues are of equal importance
There are two factors for my decision: First, that the student communicate their ideas effectively. Eye contact, studdering, frequency of looking at notes, speaking loudly and clearly, speaking too quickly are some things I look for. If a student wouldn't use their tone in front of a jury or classroom, then it probably isn't what I'm looking for. Second, the student's arguments must flow logically. I will consider whether the student's arguments have internal logical consistency, whether they are relevant to the resolution, if they are supported by sufficient evidence, and whether they fall into any particular logical fallacy.
