Judging qualifications:
I did policy debate for four years at Coppell High School. I debated on the national circuit and broke at national tournaments. I received one TOC bid as a junior. As a high school I frequently judged novice CX. I'm familiar with most styles of CX debate (stock issues, policy making, kritiks, performance, etc.) As a college student, I also judged at the UT Longhorn tournament. However, I have not judged in three years so my skills are a little rusty.

Judging Philosophy

Rounds judged: 0
Judging approach: Tabula Rasa
Policy priority: Resolution of substantive issues is more important than communication skills
Evidence philosophy: Quality of evidence is more important than quantity of evidence
Paradigm: My basic approach is tabula rasa. I would rather watch someone execute their own style of debate well (whatever that style might be) than try to distort their approach to appeal to me. I try to resolve the debate based on the arguments advanced in the round. Theory debates are almost always a waste of time. Conditionality is good. Case debate is great. I'm somewhat biased against the politics disad, but it can be run well. I'm also somewhat biased against overly finicky counterplans and PICs, but smart CPs are awesome. Kritiks are also fine; they just need a solid, specific link to the plan. Having good, qualified evidence is majorly underrated in the debate community. I like debaters to be confident but not overbearing. I haven't judged in a while, so while I'm ok with spreading I don't want debaters to be too fast.
