Judging qualifications:
I have numerous high school and college hours in grammar, literature and speech. I have a MA in Theology and Early New Testament History with a thesis referenced in the Library of Congress. I've served as a preacher and Bible teacher for 20 years, doing research from the original languages. My judging philosophy concerns an overall approach by students to research and know the topic thoroughly and anticipate any attacks, so as to be well prepared. Presentation should be informative but concise. Listening skills are almost as important as presentation skills when preparing a rebuttal. Confident but not arrogant. Being able to discern a character and accurately portray it is a must in poetry and prose, using method-acting techniques.

Evidence philosophy:

Rounds judged: 4
Approach: Communication skills and resolution of substantive issues are of equal importance
Understanding the subject from both sides and picking the most dynamic reasons to defend one's position (sometimes less is more); then presenting those reasons in a clear and concise way, making sure grammar and vocabulary are precise. When defending, don't react, but . . . stop, think and then act!!
