Judging qualifications:
I have been judging Speech and Debate for about fifteen years, depending on my availability. I competed all four years of high school in UIL Lincoln Douglas Debate, and all four years in Extemporaneous Speech: two years in Persuasive, two in Informative. I am a certified teacher, though I am not currently teaching. I work as the Deputy County Clerk of Lamar County handling Probate and Mental Competencies. I write well-written, comprehensive ballots designed to help the speaker understand deficiencies and improve his or her communication skills and logical reasoning skills.

Judging Philosophy

Judging approach:
Policy priority:
Evidence philosophy:

Rounds judged: 50
Approach: Communication skills and resolution of substantive issues are of equal importance
Though I have been a traditionalist Lincoln-Douglas Debate Judge in the past, I have been exposed in the last few years to the new style of Lincoln Douglas debate (focused more on evidence and less on philosophy). I think Debate and Speech is the single greatest advantage of which a high school student could avail him or herself, and I try to write thoughtful, well-planned ballots to help him or her improve his or her skills, planning, and communication.
