Number of years coached:

Number of tournaments judged: 5-6

High school attended:
duncanville

Graduated high school: 1989

Participated in high school: Yes

Participated in college: Yes

Judging qualifications:
I started as an LD'er, but was quickly moved to CX in high school. I went to just about every tournament for that time span. In addition, I went to Baylor debate camp. IN college, I debated at UTA- we did mostly CEDA, but some NDT. We just missed out rounds in nationals, and broke in most of the tournaments we attended.

Judging Philosophy

CX

Rounds judged: 30
Judging approach: Tabula Rasa
Policy priority: Resolution of substantive issues is more important than communication skills
Evidence philosophy: Quantity of evidence and quality of evidence are of equal importance
Paradigm: I am about as tabula rasa as you can get, I generally don't vote on procedural violations or T unless it gets dropped or is blatant. I don't mind K's aff or neg, and will only vote on things that are in the round. I don't vote on CX time (that is for the kids to clarify items), if it doesn't enter the constructive I usually don't consider it. My son attends lovejoy high, and did some debate there, so I am familiar with the topic, helping them construct many arguments and judging at many tournaments. I am totally on board with various strategies in rounds- for example effective use of the neg block is a great resource in my opinion.

LD

Rounds judged: 5
Approach: Resolution of substantive issues is more important than communication skills
Philosophy:
I prefer when LD rounds are more substantive, I don't mind bits of policy creeping into a round- I prefer when there are some real world applications, but I understand the philosophical approach as well.
