Judging Philosophy

Rounds judged: 8
Judging approach: Stock Issues
Policy priority: Communication skills and resolution of substantive issues are of equal importance
Evidence philosophy: Quality of evidence is more important than quantity of evidence
Paradigm: I judge heavily on the stock issues and I weigh the arguments each student brings up. If a student "drops" a point his or her competitor had brought up and does not address it, I flow that topic to the student who originally argued it. I will judge on communication skills to the point that if I cannot understand a student, then he or she would be marked down. But other than that extreme, a good communicator cannot win a debate I have judged based on that alone. The arguments and evidence must be logical and well argued. I also write very extensive and detailed notes on all of my ballots.
