Judging Philosophy

CX

Rounds judged: 0
Judging approach: Tabula Rasa
Policy priority: Communication skills and resolution of substantive issues are of equal importance
Evidence philosophy: Quality of evidence is more important than quantity of evidence
Paradigm: I generally fall as a Tab judge, but I have a Policymaker lean at times. I will hear any arguments in a round; however, I like to see those arguments articulated with precision. I appreciate good speaking and clean, professional clash. I am fine with Topicality to the end that it is not dismissive of all other argumentation. Good analysis on cards is crucial; otherwise, you're just reading to me. Most importantly: be respectful.

LD

Rounds judged: 0
Approach: Communication skills and resolution of substantive issues are of equal importance
Philosophy:
Good analysis and communication is crucial. I like to see strong value clash. If values are the same, criterion-level debate is huge (i.e. who upholds value best). Be respectful in cross-ex, but be strategic. Do not bring up arguments and then let them "die" -- extend in every speech and re-prioritize their importance as the debate evolves.
