In my 38+ years of Computer Data work, I have held several Technical Education teaching positions where I presented Technical Classes to computer analysts and programmers. I am used to speaking in front of a crowd. With my computer work and work in IT Industry, I am used to developing arguments and debating values/policy in a corporate environment.

Judging Philosophy

Rounds judged: 8
Judging approach: Stock Issues
Policy priority: Communication skills and resolution of substantive issues are of equal importance
Evidence philosophy: Quality of evidence is more important than quantity of evidence
Paradigm: I believe Affirmative must lay out their case and decide the points they are going to attack/support in the resolution and then fix/adjust with their plan. They also assume a burden of proof to show how their plan improves the status quo. Negative will seek to defend status quo and prove Aff Plan will not work and should not be adopted. I match arguments of each sides and evaluate how well the presented their arguments.

Rounds judged: 11
Approach: Communication skills are more important than resolution of substantive issues
LD is a values based debate. I look for how effectively the Aff. or Neg. presents the values the have concerning the topic and how they support it with evidence. I also look at how effectively they argue their case and refute the opponents ideas. Clear communication is always a benefit. It is hard for me to accept your values if I don't understand what you are saying.
